School Admissions

Calcot School serves a large area on the western side of Reading. A map, detailing the designated area, is available. The school caters for children from 3-11 years of age. Calcot Infant and Nursery School and Calcot Junior School are all on one site. We work closely together to ensure continuity for the children. The schools are led by one Headteacher. The school is usually organised into single age groups. Our current planned admission number per year is 60.

The West Berkshire Council Admission Policy has been adopted by the Federated Governing Board. For a copy please contact the school office, or for further advice please contact the Headteacher.

Prospective parents are welcome to visit the school. The Headteacher is always pleased to discuss any aspects of education so please telephone for an appointment. We really welcome the opportunity to show families around the school as this allows you the chance to get a feel for the school and see us in action.

We welcome children into our school nursery the term after they turn three. However, parents are welcome to contact the school directly and place their child onto our nursery waiting list when the child turns two.  Admission for our nursery are organised directly by the school and admission forms and information packs can be requested via the school office.

We provide full-time education to children of reception age. Children join Reception in the September of the academic year they turn five. Admissions to our infant school for Reception classes should be made via West Berkshire Admissions. However, our office staff are always happy to support families in doing this.

The Governors will admit children in each school year up to, but not exceeding the school’s Standard Number. If the number of requests exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria apply in order of priority:

1. Children who are Looked After by West Berkshire Council.
2. Children whose home address is in the area served by the school.
3. Children who have brothers or sisters attending the school.
4. Children whose parents choose the school on denominational grounds.
5. Children whose parents have any other reason for their choice.

If we do not have enough places for all the children in one of the above categories, priority will be given to children who fulfil more than one of the admission criteria. If there are still insufficient places, a final decision will be made on the radial distance from home to school. Parents of children who are unsuccessful in gaining a place will be informed in writing on the date laid down by the LA, and will be told of their right of appeal.

The admissions process can be daunting for first-time parents so do ring us if you are unsure. Parents of pre-school children will receive the appropriate application form automatically. Parents of children wishing to change schools during the school year can download the appropriate form below.
